Child, ADolescent & Family Therapy

Child, ADolescent & Parenting Wellness is a Journey! where are you AND Your child on That path?
Growing up, change and understanding who you are and what you value in this world is no easy task. Gaining a deeper sense of control within yourself through learning to navigate the discomfort that comes along with growth is both possible and can be immensely rewarding!
Maybe you want to gain a better understanding of child or adolescent development, what is expected and support with this process.
Or perhaps you or your child are looking for concrete strategies that will help to foster growth, resiliency and independence.
Or maybe you want to feel a deeper connection in interpersonal relationships through strengthening communication skills and ability to manage conflict and distress.
“The most profound personal growth does not happen while reading a book or meditating on a mat. It happens in the throes of conflict—when you are angry, afraid, frustrated. It happens when you are doing the same old thing and you suddenly realize that you have a choice.” -Vironika Wilde

You don’t have to do this alone.
Many of the children, adolescents and families I work with are finding new ways to cope with issues like these..
Attention & focus issues
Anxiety
Depression
Challenges with emotion regulation
School challenges and behavior management
Divorce & Separation
Grief & loss
Obsessive-compulsive disorder
Parenting challenges/coaching
Self harm behaviors (NSSI)
Suicidal ideation
Let’s work together to work towards living the life you want!
Marcia Colant, MA, LMFT
I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (#46326) with my BA in Therapeutic Recreation from The University of North Carolina in Wilmington, North Carolina. In 2004, I received my Masters in Counseling Psychology from Institute of Transpersonal Psychology in Palo Alto, CA. Through my early work with teens struggling to navigate the challenges of adolescent development I was driven to further my education in counseling psychology. During this time I developed a deep respect for the adolescent drive to discover independence, identity and their authentic self in the changing world around them. I was inspired by the teenagers that I met and realized my true passion for working with youth and supporting families through this complex rite of passage.
For almost 20 years I have provided therapy and support services through many Bay Area mental health organizations. My experience has allowed me the opportunity to serve foster care youth, adolescents in substance abuse programs, juvenile offenders as well as offer school based counseling services through SFUSD and BACR. I welcome any opportunity to support growth and resilience building in children and adolescents.
I believe in a collaborative, systems approach and understand the importance of supporting parents, caregivers, and teachers to allow for more fluid integration of the counseling work that happens in the therapy office. My approach is grounded in family systems which understands the child through the complex dynamics of the interpersonal relationships within the family. My style of therapy incorporates CBT, DBT and ACT techniques in my work with children and families emphasizing skill building around tolerating challenging feelings. I have also been trained in Yale University’s Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions (SPACE) approach and enjoys doing this work with parents and caregivers.
I am currently living in San Francisco with my husband and 2 children and who are both leaning into the excitement and challenges of adolescence.
